The Journal of Medical & Radiation Oncology (JMRO) follows a structured editorial process to ensure the publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed articles. Below is an overview of the key stages involved:

Initial Assessment

  • Plagiarism Check: All submissions undergo a plagiarism check using Turnitin to ensure originality.
  • Editor-in-Chief Review: The Editor-in-Chief evaluates each manuscript to determine its relevance, originality, and alignment with JMRO’s scope.
  • Initial Decision: Based on the initial assessment, the Editor-in-Chief decides whether to:
    • Proceed with peer review.
    • Reject the manuscript without peer review.

Peer Review

Manuscripts approved for review are assigned to between one to four independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.

JMRO employs a single anonymized review process, where reviewers are aware of the authors’ identities, but authors are not informed of the reviewers’ identities. Review reports remain anonymous and are not published with the articles.

Reviewers assess the manuscript (and any supplementary material) to determine its’ scientific rigor, originality, clarity, and contribution to the field. These review reports contain detailed feedback and recommendations for the Editor.

Editorial Decision

The Editor will evaluate the reviewers’ feedback and make one of the following decisions to:

  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Request minor or major revisions based on the reviewer’s feedback.
  • Accept the manuscript as is.

Authors are notified of the decision along with any reviewer comments and revision requests.

If revisions are requested, authors must modify their manuscript accordingly and resubmit the manuscript within approximately 10 days, unless additional time is needed for substantial revisions. Authors must also provide a reply letter to the reviewers, as revised manuscripts are sent back to the original reviewers who will make a final recommendation of acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

Final Decision

  • Acceptance: If the manuscript meets all editorial and reviewer requirements, it is accepted for publication.
  • Rejection: If the manuscript fails to meet the necessary standards after revisions, it may be rejected. The Editor’s decision is final and rejected manuscripts will not be subject to further consideration.

Production and Publication

Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to JMRO‘s style guidelines. Authors will be able to review the proofs during proofreading to confirm accuracy before publication.

The final version of the article is published on JMRO‘s website as an open-access article, as well as included within the journal’s printed version.
